About Us

Every year, millions of tonnes of plastic leak into our oceans (United Nations Environment Programme). The 10 most commonly found single-use plastic products on European beaches, alongside fishing gear, represent 70% of all marine litter in the EU (EU Commission). Over time, all these plastics break down into micro-particles called microplastics, which persist in the environment and pose serious threats to ecosystems, the food-chain and human health.

In response, the EU has taken comprehensive action to address plastic pollution through the Single-Use Plastics Directive (SUPD) and the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). The SUPD bans single-use plastic items such as plastic straws and the PPWR establishes binding requirements to reduce packaging waste, increase reuse and recyclability, accelerating the transition toward a circular economy.

This is where we come in. We provide high-performance alternatives to conventional plastic, helping businesses comply with new regulations without compromising on quality. By replacing single-use plastics with reusable, sustainable products, we deliver solutions that significantly reduce waste and help prevent the accumulation of microplastics.

About The Ocean Straw

The Ocean Straw is a premium, sustainable drinking straw made in Spain from a fully biodegradable, sustainably sourced wood and plant-based material from Finland. This innovative material has been developed as a sustainable alternative to conventional plastics like PP or PS, and to replace PLA due to its faster biodegradation in natural environments.

The Ocean Straw is a truly sustainable product from sourcing to end-of-life. It is designed to fit into a circular economy: reducing, reusing, and recycling help preserve natural resources and ensure that today’s actions do not compromise the future.

Why is it a better straw?

Most alternatives solve one problem while creating another. Plastic straws are durable but highly polluting. Paper straws biodegrade but compromise the drinking experience. Bio-plastics like PLA may appear sustainable, yet their sourcing and production can raise concerns - PLA is not suitable for hot drinks or reuse scenarios, can take decades to biodegrade in natural environments, and may still leave residues behind.

The Ocean Straw combines performance with true sustainability. It offers the strength, comfort, and taste neutrality of plastic while being made from bio-based materials that biodegrade through natural processes. It does not bend, dissolve, or become soggy, and it leaves no permanent microplastics behind - during use or after disposal.

Designed to work responsibly throughout its life cycle, The Ocean Straw aligns environmental performance with everyday convenience. It is not a compromise, but a smarter evolution of the straw.

Specifications

Made in the EU from sustainably sourced materials, the Ocean Straw is certified for organic recycling in industrial composting facilities. Third-party testing has demonstrated that both the straw and its material can be digested by naturally occurring microorganisms, reverting to natural components (CO₂, water, and biomass) without leaving harmful residues behind.

The Ocean Straw is durable and reusable (dishwasher safe up to 10 times at 60 °C). It is suitable for all types of beverages and withstands regular use without bending or breaking. Unlike paper straws, it does not dissolve in liquids and does not alter the taste of your drink. It delivers the convenience and functionality of conventional plastic straws without the associated environmental risks.

Safe for both people and the planet, it is free from harmful substances and common food allergens, and leaves no permanent microplastics behind - it combines user-friendliness with eco-conscious design, making it a versatile and responsible choice for people who care about the environment.
